In the Sandy Hook bay , entrance to the NY Harbor stands what was once called The NY Lighthouse, as it was once the first visible object in sight to guide ships in to the harbor.
Built in 1764 it is the oldest working light house in the United States is run by the USCG - its beacon of light shines 24 / 7. The Octagon rubblestone tower stands 103 ".

The Lighthouse Keepers Quarters was built in 1883 and is now the visitors center.
Fort Hancock and the USCG on the Northern tip of the Peninsula over looking both the Atlantic Ocean and the entrance to the harbor.
