A little bit of interesting info on Zebras ;
Baby zebras are born with brown stripes . ( but not this one ! ) .
They are able to walk within a few minutes after birth, and will stand up and be ready to run within the first hour of life.
Babies will nurse off their mother, but can also start grazing on grass in a few weeks time.
Every Zebra has its very own distinctive stripes.
Zebras like to hang out and graze with Ostriches and Giraffes.
The stripes in a herd of Zebras are believed to be for camouflage and will help to confuse the predator.
The Giraffes are the look out and will be the first to warn of danger due to their height.
Giraffe's patterns are also uniquely individualized .
There are 3 main breeds of zebra.
The Grevy's zebra of Eastern Africa has a large Mule like head and ears.
They can be up to 9 feet tall in height !
The Mountain Zebra loves to live up in the rugged terrain of South West Africa. They will come down from the mountains to graze in the Winter.
The Plains Zebra is from Southern Ethiopia to Eastern South Africa.
They live on the grasslands (plains) and have short stubby legs with long bodies.
Zebras do not domesticate very well , that is why you do not see them as pets or in the pastures dotting ( or striping ? ) the country hills and pastures
They can be cross - bred though to create a working animal for the farmer.
Zonkey is a cross between a Zebra and a Donkey.
Zebrula or zorse is a cross between a Zebra and a horse.
Zeony is a cross between a Zebra and a Pony.
Equus, Equid or Equine family.
The Latin word for Zebra is Equiferus translating to " Wild Horse ".
