The sun is setting, casting a warm glow over the Hudson River on a cool evening in the Hudson River valley. The reflection of the sunset and bridge dancing on the water.
We're all familiar with the Real Estate term " with a view ".
Sometimes you have to ask yourself - what is a view really worth?
As I was painting this bridge, I was flooded with so many memories of home, and thought back of all the times this bridge was the backdrop to all the comings and goings of our lives.
It is so much more than a span from point A to point B.
There were babies born in St. Luke's and Vassar Brothers hospital. Floors were paced waiting for their arrivals while gazing out over the Hudson River view. Loved ones in surgery, families taking shifts to visit - traveling over this bridge every day.
My father, and a few other family members worked for the NYS Bridge Authority on the bridge.
Trips in the summer to the Dutchess County Fair or watching the fireworks over the river on the 4Th of July.
Striper fishing on the river, boating and jet skiing with friends.
Chilly nights spent on the warm hood of the car with a best friend pondering the universe, while listening to the waves lap against the shore.
Reggae night at Gully's, and romantic strolls at the Newburgh Waterfront's restaurants.
Friday night pizza spent at the Cornwall Landing while the children played in the Moodna creek. Every year the Teens gathered for the Prom Pictures with Bannerman's castle off in the distance.
My husband went over this bridge to Poughkeepsie for his drills for the Army Reserves, a wedding was had at Plum point park not long after we met.
The Hudson River and the Newburgh - Beacon bridge, more than a span from point A to point B.
Next time you ask yourself " What is a view really worth? "
You might just have to answer - " Priceless ".
The Hudson Valley New York; Steeped in Colonial History and rich in New England traditions.
