They can stand and run and play within one hour of birth.
The black tufts of hair are called; Ossicones. They are flat ( thankfully ) when they are in the mother's belly and stand up shortly after birth. Boing !
The females are the ones that have the black tufts of hair. Very slimming.
The males have the cones but are often bald of fur by the time they reach maturity due to the males "necking" or fighting for the females favor.
The males in certain sub species can have 2 sets of the cones.
A giraffe's tongue is about 18 inches in length with a fine dexterous ability . The giraffe needs to be able to reach in and pick out the foliage with its tongue amongst the thorns in trees.

Can you believe that there are 10 different subspecies of giraffes in the world ? Each Giraffe group having its own pattern of identifying spots. The spots are also particular to each individual and are used for both camouflage and also as a cooling system.
A giraffe will live in the wild for approx 25 years. Longer in captivity. Of course we all know and are fascinated by the fact that they are the world's tallest animal.
